Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Subnet Calculator
The IP version currently used in networks and the Internet is IP Version 4 (IPV4). IPv4 has survived for 30 years and has been an integral part of the Internet revolution, however explosive growth in network device diversity and mobile communications along with the global adoption of networking technologies means that IPv4 is being overwhelmed.
The next generation Internet Protocol IPv6 has been developed based on the experiences of IPv4 and is a protocol designed to handle the growth rate of the Internet and to cope with the demanding requirements of services, mobility and end-to-end security.
It is very important for organisations to pay attention to the introduction of IPv6 and should be included in strategic planning and when investing in IT capital expenditures meaning that organisations can save considerable cost and can enable IPv6 more efficiently when it is needed.
n3k understands the importance of IPv6 and ran a IPv6 seminar with Silvia Hagen the writer of the O'Reilly book IPv6 Essentials and Lucent Technologies (now Alcatel-Lucent) in late 2006 - the presentation slides are available to download.
IPv6 Subnet Calculator
At n3k we have created a calculator that will generate IPv6 subnets. We have also created an IP Address Converter that formats IPv6 addresses into various standard formats.
To download choose the your OS from the list below and follow these easy steps;
1. From the Start Menu choose "Run"
2. Type "cmd" and hit the [ENTER] key
3. Drag the program into the command window that should have opened
4. Hit the [ENTER] key
A list of valid subnets will be printed for network <netaddr> given the network prefix <netprefix> and subnet prefix <subprefix>.
