VitalSuite Performance Management
Product Highlights
It’s a fundamental truth: you can’t improve what you can not measure. VitalSuite Enterprise lets you measure every aspect of network and application performance as it relates to your business operations, helping you improve the quality of services you deliver to your users.
Only VitalSuite Enterprise offers a complete, fully integrated network, application and business performance management solution in a single product suite. By providing unparalleled quality of visibility (QoV) into everything from complex eCommerce transactions to mission-critical network resources, VitalSuite Enterprise gives you the power to fine-tune performance at every level of your IT operation. No other solution captures the same end-to-end, top-to-bottom visibility into, and across, the enterprise to improve end-user satisfaction and capitalise on resource investments. VitalSuite Enterprise: the one solution for your network — and your business.
VitalSuite Enterprise seamlessly merges performance data from the three primary VitalSuite components -
- VitalNet
- VitalHelp
- VitalAnalysis
- to help you instantly understand how everything from complex eCommerce transactions to mission-critical devices are interacting to support your business operations.
End User Perspective
For application performance, the cornerstone of VitalSuite’s QoV is VitalAgent — intelligent software that resides on user desktops to passively monitor every IP-based transaction from inception to completion. The resulting data, fed to higher-level heat charts and reports, tell you exactly how everything from e-mail and Web services to groupware, database, ERP and custom in-house solutions are performing for your users — insight that helps you understand the true quality of services you are delivering. There’s no more accurate or valuable way to monitor network and application performance. VitalAgent also fills a critical self-help role by allowing users to detect, diagnose and even fix common problems themselves. By supplying detailed diagnostic data and recommended solutions for all problems it encounters, VitalAgent empowers users to take corrective action, reducing their dependence on the help desk — and letting you concentrate on more critical issues.
Supporting Remote Users
VitalAgent also reduces the cost and complexity of supporting remote users by providing QoV into remote desktops, allowing you to manage your telecommuters, “road warriors” and other mobile users from a single, central location. After all, the best place to monitor remote access problems is at the source: the desktop, the only place where you can detect busy signals, connection failures and other types of remote connectivity issues. VitalAgent provides that critical end-user perspective, monitoring every aspect of the remote connection process, regardless of whether your remote users are at home, in a regional office or dialing in from a hotel room. The resulting data gives you insight into the telecommunications infrastructure, delivering — for the first time ever — a thorough understanding of your remote users’ experiences.
Multi-tier and eCommerce Visibility
Multi-tier and eCommerce environments represent a particular challenge for most performance management solutions. VitalSuite’s QoV turns those challenges into advantages. In multi-tier environments, VitalAgent lets you monitor and demarcate application performance beyond web and application servers through the N-tier, letting you see — and improve — potentially significant sources of network and application delays. For business-to-consumer eCommerce transactions, where you don’t have access to users’ desktops, VitalAgent Automon provides visibility into hard-to-track activity such as web form posts and HTTPS transactions. Using synthetic transactions to regularly test remote access resources and front-end eCommerce transactions, VitalAgent Automon helps you determine overall availability, detect performance trends and identify times when availability is traditionally low — information you can use to refine services and improve performance.

Easy to Use Administrative Interface
Managing a widespread, disparate enterprise is difficult. VitalSuite Enterprise simplifies this demanding task through a centralised, web-based administrative interface that lets you define, monitor and manage your entire system with ease. VitalSuite’s intuitive work flow lets you sort, search and filter data any way you want — by division, by department, by location or by specific technology — so you can organize and understand the cause and effect of enterprise-wide network and application performance. You see what you want, when and how you want it, all through a central, logical display. Heat charts provide high-level overviews that show how applications and network devices are performing across the enterprise. By choosing the Domains tab, you can view those same performance metrics, broken out by group or location, providing additional details about how your net-work and applications are supporting your users. You gain a better understanding about how network and application performance are impacting your users, domain by domain, helping you identify potential problems that might otherwise blend into the background. Using the interface and the Domains feature, you can realize the benefits of timesaving capabilities such as bulk resource configuration and user-account profiles, as well as innovative configuration features such as customised resource naming and scheduled downtime. And VitalSuite lets a global administrator limit access to determine who manages individual domains, for maximum control and organisation.
Tracking Faults to their Source
For enterprise networks that span the globe, supporting users in different buildings, different cities and different countries, tracking faults to their source can be a challenge. VitalSuite’s VitalNet component eliminates that challenge, guiding you directly to the root cause of network infrastructure problems anywhere in the world — all from a single interface. When a performance problem is reported, network managers can use VitalNet to drill down to a specific device, interface or even individual circuits to isolate the source of the fault. That ability to associate high-level events with specific devices, ports and virtual connections helps reduce the time normally required to identify, locate and troubleshoot network faults, keeping the system operating smoothly and reducing costly downtime. For enterprise customers who rely on outsourced network services, VitalSuite also provides an effective way to determine whether outside service providers are living up to their agreements, or if they’re falling short. With VitalNet, you can monitor the provider’s performance to determine the level of network services you are receiving, around the clock. And if a problem occurs, you can use VitalNet to determine whether the problem resides within your system — or if it’s the service provider’s responsibility. It’s an effective — and objective — way to hold service providers accountable and ensure better service.
Monitoring Business Transactions
For most companies, success is a direct result of IT’s ability to support their network-based business operations. That means they need a way to monitor and manage those processes to ensure business objectives are met. With the Business Transaction Management System (BTMS), VitalSuite Enterprise allows IT professionals to identify, capture and define the performance of specific application business transactions. Whether it’s a credit authorization for an eCommerce vendor or a package tracking operation for a shipping company, the BTMS provides unprecedented visibility into critical business transactions — and how those operations are impacting your bottom line.
On Demand Upgrades
If VitalSuite Enterprise doesn’t currently support a new or existing network device, a unique MIBWorks toolkit, integrated into VitalNet, allows you to build in support on demand, so you don’t have to wait for future releases. When combined with the QIP product — the industry’s leading IP address management solution, also available from VitalSoft — VitalSuite Enterprise delivers the industry’s most complete and powerful infrastructure management solution available.
Scalable, Standards Based Architecture
Thanks to a powerful distributed architecture, along with the latest advances in data collection and distribution technologies such as XML, VitalSuite Enterprise delivers real-time network and application performance data that integrates with multiple hardware and software vendor solutions. And as your enterprise grows, VitalSuite Enterprise can scale to accommodate millions of users and network resources — helping you meet the demands of even the most complex and widespread environments.
Open, Standards Based Data Collection
VitalSuite Enterprise is just one part of your management arsenal. That’s why we built it on an open, standards-based architecture that ensures compatibility with existing solutions, making it a powerful addition to any management system.
An open application programming interface (API) enables simple integration with existing management frameworks, directories and other tools, enabling you to merge VitalSuite data with other event correlation and policy management solutions to support your needs.
The VitalSuite OpenGateway feature automatically forwards VitalSuite generated traps to other network management systems, including Tivoli’s NetView, Hewlett-Packard’s OpenView and Aprisma’s Spectrum, ensuring complete compatibility between existing investments.
In addition, real-time events detected by VitalSuite can be forwarded to industry-leading trouble-ticketing systems such as Remedy ARS to further enhance your troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts. And the open, standards-based architecture lets you extend VitalSuite Enterprise capabilities to other SNMP-based devices and custom in-house applications, contributing to the industry’s most flexible network and application performance management solution.
