Using porttracker
porttracker Licensing
A simple licensing model, including one sync module and the ability to distribute pollers, allows organisations to deploy porttracker economically in a wide range of configurations.
Using portracker could not be easier, 4 easy steps are all it takes!
Step 1 – Connect & Configure
Install your Master porttracker delivered in a convenient 1u rack mount format. Connect power, network cables and finally attach a console via the conveniently provided cable to define all the usual network parameters – IP address, gateway, subnet mask and DNS server to allow it to join your network.
Step 2 – Discover
Each discoverable region of your network can be named and is called a realm. Using the configured seed address for each realm portracker will automatically discover the switches in the realm. This can be augmented by manual additions for devices which are not auto discoverable.
Step 3 – Poll
Depending on network size and topology the Master porttracker can be augmented by additional porttracker pollers to form a distributed architecture with slave pollers for specific realms. Using efficient polling algorithms and configurable schedules designed to minimise the traffic load, a cumulative database of all the connections for each and every switch throughout your network is built. This gives you a comprehensive view of the management and operational status for each port with the full device information including the mac, IP address, VLAN membership and DNS name for devices connected.
